Of course a great many members of the Church were unsound, whilst the sound membership was small. Nor could it have been a hasty, patched-up preparation; for he held his place as a leader still, and when his college life was ended, stood first among his fellows. In a Harvard College graduate, year-old Oliver Peabody, was assigned to the Natick congregation, and a third church structure was built to replace the meetinghouse that was in ruin, with shattered siding and broken windows. Such were the marks of his early years; how full of promise for, how exactly answered by, his future ones.

Details of the event are lacking, because the great Boston journalist, John Winthrop was dead, and the next generations of note takers, Increase Mather and Cotton Mather had not yet emerged.

This report was made to the Cumberland Board of Missions, or rather at that time to the General Assembly. For historical context, Kathryn N.
